bookkeeping for small business tutorial part 1 – invoice tracking – bookkeeping training

This is a free video tutorial for small business bookkeeping – part 1 – open office calc spreadsheets – invoice tracking – bookkeeping training.

In this video tutorial, I will show you how to keep track of invoices which you have sent to your clients. By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to keep track of all your invoices and know who has paid and more importantly how has NOT paid so you can chase up payments.

We will create a spreadsheet with various informative columns which will give you a quick overview of your invoices. We will use open office calc to create the spreadsheet, but the same logic can easily be applied to Libre Office Calc or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

I will show you how to use colour codes so at a glance you can quickly see which invoices are paid and which are outstanding. I will also show you how to use auto filters which simply allows to you quickly analyse information in your invoice tracking spreadsheet.

Open Office runs better than it, but Libre Office is more intuitive; M.S. Office is intuitive and runs well, but Open Office is less intensive on your computer and seems to start up and close out fast.

If you scroll to the right the columns go to letters AMJ. Just in case your wondering..lol…Back to the video.

Impressive video content. To take your color coding a step further, I’ve added a column that calculates the number of days between now and Invoice Date when Invoice Paid = “No”.

Can this work better in Base or is there a way to communicate between the two programs? i’m trying to find out the most efficient way.

Reply

You can do this is base with the right knowledge. This spreadsheet system has served me well for over 14 years.

Reply

@DCP Web Designers fair enough πŸ‘Œ. I’m brand new in the business world, would you suggest I don’t bother with Base for the time being then? Or would it still be worth investing my time in?

Spreadsheet is good as you can give it to you accountant and end of year and have clean set of accounts
